Garden Chic Green Wedding in New York

by Kate 17. November 2009 06:18

I completely adore the green wedding we are highlighting this week, shot by the talented Lauren Kennedy.  The ceremony was held in the garden of the bride's childhood home in Lima, NY and this made for an absolutely stunning backdrop. The photographer (who is moving to Seattle this June) did an amazing job of capturing all the emotions, details and decor.  This couple really got creative and you can see their individual personalities and love for one another shine through as a result. They incorporated several eco-friendly elements such as serving local food and using flowers from the garden to make the bridal bouquet.  The bride's dress was also absolutely unique and sentimental as it was made by one of her closest friends.  One of my favorite parts of the wedding however has to be the use of the typewriters! During cocktail hour, all the guests sat down at a typewriter and wrote a personal note to the couple...such a beautiful idea.  I will let the images tell you the rest of their story:

Hi Kate,

Thank you for featuring our wedding on your blog! I thought you'd like to know some other eco-friendly elements of the wedding. My dress was made from cotton fabric. All of our flowers were fresh and seasonal from a local farm, and our pies (we had cakes and pies in lieu of a wedding cake) were made with fresh local fruit. We had a Welcome Dinner the night before the wedding and reused a lot of the decor from the Welcome Dinner--flowers, fruit, candles, etc. for elements of the wedding decor. The fruit, which was used in the Welcome Dinner centerpieces, was also cut up and served at a brunch after the wedding and the rest was frozen to make pies later in the year. There's more, but those are some highlights!

Thanks again for featuring us,

Leah

Looks like a lovely wedding with some really fine attention to the details. The typewriters are a novel idea but wouldn’t it have been even more personable if everyone had hand written a note? The candles in glass jars scattered across the lawn must have been beautiful.
